It continues. KRUDLER 2!

The February KRUDLER release is a week late. "Oops." But here it is! Modular synth jams, guitars, etc. Some noise. Slow and nasty, with a surprise happy ending. Go get it. And now watch me scramble to finish the next one by the end of the month...

The big SLs full-length is still cooking. In the meantime, I thought it would be a good idea to launch something a little different. 

As rewarding as it can be to fuss over a set of recordings for years, the building pressure of the thing (increasing expectations, an ever-growing chunk of life potentially wasted) is, uh, not as rewarding. And being denied (or, denying oneself) the high of having completed a project for this long... that's not great either. BUT at this point I'm OK with chipping away at it 'til it's done. In the meantime, there are some other musical things I'd like to try and The SLs is, um, 'thematically specific' enough that a lot of those things don't quite fit the project. 

So... let's also have KRUDLER. 

My plan is to crank out a short release every month this year. The first of these, Krudler 1, is here and you can listen to it with the embedded player below. It's short and noisy. The next one will be different. I think it should be pretty good. THANK YOU.

CRIME WIT at Ash Street - JAN 22

CRIME WIT plays Ash Street with Agents of ECCO and Pediment! There is an FB Event page, if you're into that kind of thing. The CW is sounding pretty huge - DO NOT MISS IT.

Some notes.

-new CRIME WIT material in the works. Band's sounding strong.

-The SLs full-length has been an epic slog, but it's really coming together. [Like how a year ago I would have said "It's really coming together!", then add another year's worth of it coming together on top of that. Apparently it started out really, really not together.] Soon, my pretties. Soon.

Let's see... Since last we spoke there have been a couple of SLs solo performances and a lot of work on the SLs full-length (still not done, but still worthwhile).  Working on new material with the live band last year, it became clear that the band has evolved into its own thing. SO we kept plugging away with that in mind and now... here it is. CRIME WIT. The line-up is still Justin, Bobby, and Chris, but the whole thing is a little more rock, fewer synthesizer nightmare parts (I'm not saying none, I'm saying fewer). EP is up on Bandcamp now, all FREE to download or stream or ignore.



Crime Wit's "live debut" will be at this year's Emusication Proclamation (NoPo festival house show, details shortly) on February 22nd.  More updates soon. (Maybe less than 8 months this time. WE'LL SEE.)

Unreleased SLs track!

"Their Teeth Danced" is now up over at The SLs' bandcamp. This one was originally intended for a noise comp that Klint (Psychetect) was putting together back in 2010. The comp didn't end up happening, but I like the track. It came together quickly (only 2 months - record time!) and I think it has some effective moments.

THE SLs - New Demos 2013

I forgot to mention here! We posted some full-band demos over at The Steven Lasombras bandcamp. These were recorded in the basement, mostly live (minimal overdubs, for once) between December and February. [It seemed like it might be a good idea to have some decent recordings that actually demonstrate what the band sounds like in a live setting...]  

We have some exciting things coming up: a lot of new material, plus still -STILL- finishing up the SLs full-length. In the meantime, these demos can tide you over. I think they turned out pretty well.

 

THE SLs in Eugene this Saturday!

We're excited to play in Eugene this weekend with old allies KNIFE LIFE (Jason from Bobby's old band  Not Yeti) and PURPLE SPARROWS (featuring members of The Black Darts - Bob's pulling double duty). I'm excited to see those bands, and to see how this Steven Lasombras line-up goes over outside of Portland. WE'LL SEE, I GUESS.

The comp includes new music from a bunch of great bands like Arrington de Dionyso's Malaikat dan Singa, Dragging An Ox Through Water, Ghost To Falco, and THE STEVEN LASOMBRAS (a new full-band recording of "They Poisoned Us All").

Old friends, special guests... Very excited to play with The Crossettes and Arcata, CA's thelittlestillnotbigenough. It should be a good one - good enough to warrant coming out on a Wednesday.

Great show at Backspace last night. Matthew Peterson (of Sugarboom) and Moon Mirror were great, and The SLs' set went well. If you were standing up front wearing a low-brimmed hat, it would have looked like this:

1. CONFIRMED: The Steven Lasombras' line-up at Record Room this Saturday will include Justin Landers, Chris Ryan, and Bobby Hayden, WITH Alex Landers contributing synth noise [...and continuing our trend of adding a new member every show]. It sounds good.

2. New enclosures uploaded to the Etsy site. Featuring Robert Blake from Lost Highway and cats. Cats!

Now this is happening.

The SLs (with, if all goes according to plan, A SPECIAL GUEST) will be playing at Record Room on May 26th. I say it a lot, but the new record really is almost done... MORE NEWS SOON.

Updates, updates

The new SLs record is really almost-almost there. Mixes are still being tweaked, artwork's still being finished, and we're still working out the new live arrangements. Expect a lot more about that soon - the current live incarnation of The SLs is not to be missed.

Of course, amid all that I've also been distracting myself from the matter at hand by working on more pedal enclosures. The latest batch have been uploaded here and a few of them look like this:
